Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi or radio? How they differ in daily use

Understand audio sources and check compatibility by Tivoli Audio generation.

Radio with direct controls

Model One BT combines AM/FM, Bluetooth and AUX in a wood cabinet. For bedside listening and an alarm, see Model Three BT. Model Two Classic offers a separate companion speaker for stereo listening, but is distinct from the network-connected Model Two Digital.

Bluetooth or Wi-Fi?

Bluetooth means a direct connection to a compatible device. For AirPlay 2 or Google Cast, compare Model One Digital Gen. 3 and Model Two Digital. The former has a radio tuner; the latter is a speaker without one. Boutique is a small Bluetooth speaker with AUX and charging outputs for other devices, without Wi-Fi.

Portable radio or portable speaker?

PAL BT USB-C offers FM, Bluetooth and a compact size. PAL+ BT USB-C adds DAB+ where available, a display and alarm. SongBook has Bluetooth, EQ and a 6.35 mm input with a preamp. The larger SongBook Max adds DAB+/FM. Compare dimensions and weight as well as appearance.

Finish and generation

View each finish on its product page. Natural wood grain varies and screens reproduce colours differently. Batteries, power supplies and companion speakers require the exact model and generation; an earlier PAL accessory is not automatically compatible with the new USB-C PAL.

Questions about this topic

Does phone streaming replace the need for an FM tuner?

It depends on how you listen. Wireless music uses a compatible source, while FM is received by a built-in tuner. Choose a model offering both if you need both.

Must I choose exclusively between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi?

Not necessarily. Models such as Model One Digital Gen. 3 and Model Two Digital offer both. Available sources and setup remain specific to each model.
